The 3.5mm audio jack, also commonly called the 1/8 inch jack, is a small and popular audio connector designed for solderless connections. This connector was first designed by the French company "Sony" in the 1950s. It was first used in radios and then in music systems for stereo audio listening. It is preferred for small size and high quality sound transmission, such as headphones, insulated wires and straps.

The 3.5mm Audio/Video 4 pole plug, commonly used in audio and video, typically has four connections or poles. These connections serve different purposes:
