Transistor or IC (Integrated Circuit) is used to make voltage booster. But we can also make voltage booster circuit using old touch screen phone. Our touch screen mobile phone has a voltage booster installed on it, it is mostly found in modern phones nowadays which gives 45V output. This is a powerful voltage booster. You can also see it in the video. To make this voltage booster, you will only need an old mobile phone, but keep in mind that the mobile should be in ON state, even if the display appears white, the phone should be ON only then it will work, then you will also need some wires and 3.7v lithium ion battery. Using all these components, you can make a simple voltage booster. Follow the steps carefully. Because soldering at the wrong place in the phone can damage your entire mobile phone. And also make sure that you use this on the phone which is of no use to you.
The Phone Has A Built-in Voltage Booster
Yes, modern smartphones often have built-in voltage boosters, also known as DC to DC converters. These circuits are essential for the efficient operation of various components inside the phone like display backlight, power IC, etc. Here is how they work and why they are used:
1. Powering High-Voltage Components: Some components, such as the backlight for the display and the camera flash, require a higher voltage than the 3.7v voltage provided by the phone's battery. Like a 40 volt or 50 volt, this voltage booster helps meet these requirements.
2. Efficient Power Management: Voltage booster also works to prevent excessive voltage consumption of the phone. By generating proper voltage to run various types of components, voltage booster increases your battery backup thereby increasing the battery life.
3. Supporting Multiple Voltages: Different parts of the phone, such as the processor, memory, and sensors, all operate at different voltage levels. Voltage boosters and regulators ensure that each component gets the correct voltage, thus keeping the phone performing at its best.
Although every phone has a voltage booster, but in the absence of a voltage booster the phone does not work properly, the phone hangs while playing games, the touch of the display does not work properly and the phone's battery gets drained quickly. Therefore it is necessary to have a voltage booster.
Components Required To Make This Project
• Old touch screen phone
• Wires
• 3.7v lithium ion battery
Making Process Guide (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Identify the Display Connections
1. Remove the display carefully first: Open your old touch screen phone carefully and remove the display. The connector of the display is attached to the motherboard and you need to remove it carefully.
2. Find the LED points: On the display, you will find points written (A K) or sometimes (A K K) where the LEDs connect. Usually, there are 3 or 4 points see image number 2.
Step 2: Identify Positive and Negative Pins
1. Check points: Turn on the phone and check these points with a millimeter. One of these will be the positive pin (marked as 'A' or '+'), and the rest will be negative pins (marked as 'K' or '-'). Keep in mind that there will be only one positive, there can be more negative ones, 2 or 3.
Step 3: Connect Wires to the Display
1. Connect the wires: Connect two wires to these points – one to the positive pin and the other to any negative pin.
2. Reconnect the display: Reconnect the display to the phone, making sure your wires are securely connected and not short-circuiting any other components.
Step 4: Power On and Test
1. Turn on the phone: As soon as the phone is turned on, voltage will start coming from the wire connected to the display.
2. Measure the output: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage output from the connected wire. You should get around 45V. But this will not be the same in every phone, it may be more or less in some.
This way it is easy to make a voltage booster. Although there may be some difficulty in soldering, but after careful soldering this voltage booster works well. It is easy to make this voltage booster without using many components. You can also run a 12v LED or a DC motor with this voltage booster. It works for a long time i.e. it gives more battery backup. Its disadvantage is that after a few minutes the phone's display goes off, which happens in every mobile. So this voltage also decreases and as soon as you turn the phone on normally again, it starts working.

How Voltage Boosters Work
Voltage boosters use inductors, capacitors, and switching transistors to convert a low input voltage to a higher output voltage.
1. Energy Storage: When electric current flows, this inductor stores energy. But for a very short time because if it stores energy for too long, the inductor will burn. This work has to be done very fast. Store it immediately and then release it. Then there is a capacitor installed in front which stores this energy.
2. Switching: A transistor turns the current on and off rapidly, and controls the amount of energy stored in the inductor. As we mentioned, energy cannot be stored for long in an inductor, so a switch is used with it which turns it on and off. For this, fast switching is required, so a transistor or MOSFET is used.
3. Voltage Increase: When the electric current is turned off, the energy stored in the inductor is released, which increases the voltage. In the voltage booster, the inductor receives voltage, and the transistor is used as a switch and all the voltage collected in the inductor when the switch is off is stored in the capacitor. And this switching continues continuously and the voltage starts to boost.
4. Output Regulation: A capacitor and a load are connected to it so that the voltage remains constant, because without a load the voltage will keep getting stored in the capacitor and sudden release of voltage will damage the phone. Therefore it is important to ensure that the voltage remains constant and uniform.
You saw how many stages are there in a voltage booster and all of them are necessary only then you will get a good voltage booster but you can also make the voltage booster yourself

People also ask
Why do smartphones need voltage boosters?
The voltage provided by the battery in your smartphone is 3.7 volts, which is not sufficient for many components in the phone, so voltage boosters are used so that more than 3 volts can be generated and the part which needs the voltage can get that much voltage.
Can I create a voltage booster circuit from an old phone?
Yes, you can use the components of an old phone to make a voltage booster circuit. Or you can convert the entire phone into a voltage booster. Other components required: An old mobile, wires and a battery.
Can I use any old phone for this project?
Yes, most of the old touch screen phones can be used for this project, but nothing can be said about the keypad phones as experiments are still going on in it.
