TDA2822 is a dual audio power amplifier IC. It is known for its small size and robust performance. This IC is a dual channel audio IC. It can generate up to 2 watts of power in each channel. TDA2822 is specially designed for use in battery operated or portable devices. We can use this IC where good audio quality is required even at low voltage.

This IC can also be used for two speaker connections and potentiometers for volume control. It is used for many types of audio applications, such as portable radios, headphone amplifiers, small speaker systems, etc. TDA2822 IC is usually available in 8 DIP (dual inline package) format, which can be easily mounted or built on Breadboard, zero PCB board, PCB board per board.

In place of 1000uf 16v capacitor 470uf 16v capacitor can be used, or a 100uf capacitor can also be used. Tda2822 IC is an amplifier IC so no other IC will work in its place because its circuit is built here. In place of 104 pf capacitor we can use 102,103,101 or 100 pf capacitor. In place of 4.7 ohm resistor, 1 ohm to 10 ohm resistor can be used. 100k resistor is fixed, its value does not need to be increased or decreased. 3.5mm audio jack This audio jack will be found with old headphones, the audio jack fitted on the headphones will have four wires: Blue, Green, Red, Gold. (Understand this in detail) Blue and green wires will be connected to the left and right side of this amplifier. Connect the red and gold wires together, now there are three pairs of wires, blue green will work for left right and red gold will work for negative. Use any Speaker 5watt to 10watt or higher, but not used 1watt or 2watt speaker.

Making Process Guide

1. Connect 2pic 470uf 16v capacitor 
First of all, connect the positive pin of the 470uf 16v capacitor numbered one to IC pin number 1. And the negative pin of the capacitor has to be connected to any one pin of the first speaker, and the second pin of this first speaker has to be connected to IC pin number 4. Now take the second 470uf 16v capacitor and connect its positive pin to IC pin number 3, and its negative pin has to be connected to any one pin of the second speaker, and the second pin of this second speaker has to be connected to IC pin number 4.

2. Connect 2pic 104pf capacitor & 4.7 ohm resistor 
Now connect any one pin of the 104pf capacitor to pin number 1 of the IC, and the other pin of this capacitor to the 4.7 ohm resistor and the other pin of this resistor to pin number 4 of the IC. Now take another 104pf capacitor and connect any one of its pins to pin number 3 of the IC, and the other pin of this capacitor to the other 4.7 ohm resistor and the other pin of this resistor to pin number 4 of the IC. Pin number 4 of the IC is the ground pin.

3. Connect 2pic 100uf 16v capacitor 
Now connect the positive pin of the 100uf 16v capacitor to pin number 8 of the IC, and the negative pin of this capacitor to pin number 4 of the IC. Now take another 100uf 16v capacitor and connect its positive pin to pin number 5 of the IC. Now connect the negative pin of this capacitor to pin number 4 of the IC.

4. Connect 2pic 100k resistor
Now connect a 100k resistor to the negative pin of both the 100uf 16v capacitors. Connect a 100k resistor to the negative pin of the first capacitor. Now connect the second pin of this resistor to pin number 7 of the IC. Now connect the negative pin of the second 100uf 16v capacitor to the second 100k resistor. And connect the second pin of this resistor to pin number 6 of the IC.

5. Connect 1000uf 16v capacitor
Now take a 1000uf 16v capacitor and connect its positive pin to the IC pin number 2 and the negative pin of this capacitor to the IC pin number 4. If you do not have a 1000uf 16v capacitor then you can use 470uf to 2200uf 16v capacitor.

6. Connect Audio jack
Now you have to take an audio jack, you can also take the old headphones audio jack, connect the green wire of this audio jack to the pin number 7 of the IC. Now connect the blue wire of the audio jack to the pin number 6 of the IC. Then connect the gold + red wire of the audio jack to the pin number 4 of the IC.

7. Connect battery 
The positive pin of the battery will be connected to the IC pin number 2 and the negative pin of the battery will be connected to the IC pin number 4. You can give it DC input ranging from 3 volts to 6 volts.

Working Principle

Once the amplifier is ready, the amplifier will be connected to the power supply: The TDA2822m ic will be connected to the positive supply at pin number 2 (Vcc), while pin number 4 of the ic will be connected to ground (GND). The voltage range may vary but it usually operates between 3V to 6v and a maximum of 15V DC. The output pins of this amplifier ic are 1 and 3 which have a 470 uf capacitor and a 104pf capacitor and a 4.7 ohm resistor connected to them. It works in stereo mode, which is helpful in giving 3D sound. The low audio signal goes to this IC, the signal is processed by the IC and it amplifies the low audio signal and gives it to the output, the capacitors keep the voltage constant and the power of the output obtained at the end is high, but while running on low voltage, the sound quality decreases a bit. When it is run on 6 volts, it works well because all the capacitors also get well charged and then they keep the IC well biased. But it also works well when run on high voltage i.e. 15 volts, but due to high voltage, the losses generated in it can be so much that the IC will start heating up and will burn, so running it on 6 volts is a good option. This IC works very well on 6v with clear sound and low noise. Therefore, this amplifier circuit is easy to make and operate. Do not run it on 15v as there is a risk of burning of the IC. It works well on 3v and 6v.

Replacement ICs for TDA2822m IC If you do not have 2822 IC then you can use these.

1. NJM2073: This is also a dual audio power amplifier IC and can generate 1.5 watts power in each channel.

2. TA7222: This is also a dual audio power amplifier IC which can generate 2.2 watts power in each channel.

3. BA5406: This is also a good option, which can generate 5.5 watts power.

These ICs can be used in audio amplification applications similar to TDA2822. But if you are choosing one of these instead of tda 2822 IC, then keep in mind that their circuit diagram will be slightly different.
